Bach  to Bach to Bach

The Syracuse Chorale continues its tradition of delightful holiday concerts as it presents Bach to Bach to Bach, featuring Come Jesu, Come, a Motet for double choir by father J.S. Bach, Magnificat by son C.P.E. Bach, and A Consort of Christmas Carols and the oratorio The Seasonings, by dubious descendant P.D.Q. Bach (reverently edited by Professor Peter Schickele).  Following the Bachs, the Syracuse Chorale will send everyone home in the mystical and powerful spirit of the season by the performance of two exciting anthems by contemporary Pittsburgh composer Glenn Rudolph.  The first, I Came from Light, set to synthetic SoundScape accompaniment, is the angelsí own account of their announcement of the birth of the Christ Child to the Bethlehem shepherds.  The finale, The Dream Isaiah Saw, accompanied by organ, brass, and percussion, powerfully exhorts all of us to live out the message of this blessed seasonÖ peace on earth and good will to men!

March

Music of Merrie England
 Olde and Younge
.

Our concert will feature two Baroque Coronation Anthems by George Frideric Handel, Let Thy Hand Be Strengthened and The King Shall Rejoice.  Music of 20th and 21st Century composers will also be featured, as the Chorale performs John Rutterís hauntingly beautiful Requiem, and Ralph Vaughan Williamsí powerful Five Mystical Songs, which sets to music the spiritual poetry of George Herbert for baritone soloist and choir.  As in all our major concerts, the Syracuse Chorale Chamber Singers will also perform, this time singing music of other notable English composers.  Our concert promises to be a Merrie Time for Olde and Younge!
